Thank you, Tom! I have lots more to tell …and I’m sure you do too. Let’s get together over a bottle of Oude Genever and start talking!

Does it remind you of Chartreuse? We've found a similar one in Genepì. Here's more: https://winedharma.com/en/recipe/genepi-an-alpine-liqueur-with-deep-roots/ Genepi and Genever are etymologically related, as you might guess: "The word génépi is similar to other European words such as ginepro (Italian), juniper (English), jenever (Dutch), and genièvre (French), from the Latin iuni-pero meaning “evergreen.”" (From the WP article about Genepi.) I see also that Oude Genever is flavored with juniper, like gin, but using less. Genepi is flavored with artemisia and other herbs. Yes, we'll have to have some tasting and talking and catch up!

It is not like Chartreuse...I wish it had been. It is very much Gin-like with what to me was a bitter after-taste. I can't say it was my cup of tea....but in search of a authentic Dutch experience one does what one must. So down the hatch it went. I didn't catch the juniper taste....but maybe the loud volume of the Bayan was interfering with the the discernment chops of my tasting sense.
